Back to School

Fall is in the air and it is back to school time throughout Pennsylvania! We thought it would be a great time to look back at some of our Educational projects, which range from daycare facilities to colleges and everywhere in between.

Here’s a few of the highlights:

Bucks County Community College

The Allied Health Building design which entailed the new three-story addition to the existing Hicks Art Building, featuring nursing labs, hospital training unit, faculty offices and classrooms.

Cafeteria renovations which entailed a master plan, construction drawings and construction phase management of the two-phase renovation of the existing cafeteria.

Upgrades were made to the gymnasium and pool entailing the design, construction documents and construction phase services to renovate the existing pool.

Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU)

Watkins Architect designed the additions and renovations to the Intermediate Education Centre building. Designs featured 20 classrooms for the Head-Start and Early Intervention programs and flexible conference room spaces for the school districts throughout the county.

Alvernia College – Francis Hall Dormitory

Architectural design services in a design-build format were provided for the Berks County college for a new 15,300 square-foot student dormitory facility.

Growing Hearts

The Growing Hearts Early Childhood Education Center has many principles that are very important to teach our children as they are going to school today. From its origin the center was designed with sustainability and environmental responsibility in mind. Such concepts were not just integrated into the curriculum but also within the policies and design of the facility. This facility was featured at the 2009 AIA National Convention in San Francisco, achieving an ENERGY STAR Design Rating of 85; it was one of only 75 buildings to earn this distinction for the 2009 ENERGY STAR Challenge.

Empire Beauty School

We were fortunate enough to be consulted on various projects for the Empire Education Group. The various projects include the groups new corporate offices, façade renovations and the design of the new on-site beauty school located in Pottsville, PA.
