With the summer months upon us, it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the Fleetwood Park and Walking Circuit Trails. In summer of 2010, Watkins Architect began the designs of a master plan for the existing park facility. The land planning and design service included a 10-station fitness trail, playground replacement, expanded parking, adult fitness center, lighting, signage and various other site upgrades.
This project is a great example of the power of collaboration of local businesses and organizations in Fleetwood that helped bring this resource to the community. A big part of the project is Fleetwood Councilwoman, Tammy Gore. She wrote and was awarded grants to update the outdated playground equipment. She also assisted in creating a community group, Friends of the Fleetwood Playground to help bring the project to life.
There has also been support from local civic groups such as the Fleetwood Rotary, the Kutztown Optimist Club, and Fleetwood Lions, along with many other residents and businesses around Fleetwood. These groups are assisting in the purchase and installation of the Walking Trail Fitness Course stations and trail.
At this time all 10 stations are complete and phases two and three of the playground are still getting underway. Rick Bradleys of Ricks Contracting is currently working to finish the pathway of the fitness trail. Final pictures and updates to follow!
